The culture of narcissism in dance has a new ally: movmnt magazine has a social network. Dancers who aspire to celebrity now have more ways than the studio mirror to admire their youthful mugs. If you’re lucky and you’ve got chops, you’ve got 10 years, kids ‒ at best. Better make it last.
My hope for 2008 is that artists & practitioners (we’ve got theory) will increasingly utilize this medium to demonstrate that dance or, as I’m beginning to prefer, performance, doesn’t have to be so… dumb.
